On April 5, leaders of the Korean American community gathered at KAAGNY headquarters to form the Korean American Community Task Force Against Asian Hate.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed how to collaboratively respond to anti-Asian hate crimes (including the targeting of Asian-owned businesses) and how to provide Korean Americans with in-language resources on bystander intervention and conflict de-escalation techniques. The Task Force also discussed short-term and long-term measures to address hate incidents and racism, including:

  • Cultivating stronger inter-community relations with other ethnic groups

  • Organizing rallies to raise awareness and build solidarity across all communities

  • Advocating for legal measures that protect Asian lives and supporting bills that denounce and prevent anti-Asian hate crimes

  • Pushing for Asian American history and anti-racism education in schools

  • Meeting with local, state, and federal officials to bolster these initiatives

Members of the Task Force include KAAGNY, the Federation of Korean Churches, the Korean American Business Council of New York, 21 Hope Foundation, the Federation of Korean American Associations in Northeast USA (FKAANE), Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York (KALAGNY), Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE), Korean American Parents Association of Greater New York (KAPAGNY), Murray Hill Restaurants Association, Korean Community Services (KCS), MinKwon Center, and Queens YWCA.
